About Jylland
Vineyard
Jylland Vineyard is named
after the Continental Scandinavian mainland part of Denmark, Jylland,
known in English
as Jutland. The name evokes the Viking heritage of co-owner
Edel Grocke, who brought with her to Australia a passion for
sunshine, fine food and fresh, fruity wine.
Located in the Lennard Brook district of the Shire of Gingin, Western
Australia, the vineyard is on the south western slope of Moorgup Hill
in the Darling
Range, about 80km north of Perth.
Here we cultivate grape varieties that are best suited to our Mediterranean
maritime climate. Chenin Blanc is the local king. The wine is crisp,
zesty and a delightful complement to any food or occasion.
Another favourite is our beautiful Verdelho – a lovely warm
climate variety with the famous marri blossom honey tones of the region.

Our 2004 and 2005 Chardonnay vintages have been lightly wooded using
central European oak. Although initially tentative about ‘wooded
white’ we are very happy with the results. The delightful smoky
vanilla tones have really lifted the Chardonnay into the ‘interesting
and compelling’ classification.
The reds are blends of old favourites with lesser common varieties.
We grow Shiraz, Carnelian and Cabernet Sauvignon and buy in regional
blending varieties such as Tempranillo, Merlot, Grenache to make our
popular, JRB*. Our reds, both varietals and blends, are robust, with
full fruit , berry and spice intensity. The wines imply no pretensions
or mysteries. Labels accurately detail the content to be explored.
They’re honest reds and, by subtle use of oak,
comfortable and very drinkable.
